Biography

Taraneh Ashrafi is a commercial litigator with a focus on complex commercial disputes, class actions, and administrative law matters.

Taraneh holds a Juris Doctor from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. During her law degree, Taraneh was an advocate with the Dalhousie Student Advocacy Service, representing students involved in the University’s academic disciplinary and appeals processes across faculties. She was the Director of Publications for her school’s division of Lawyers Without Borders, as well as a pro bono student at a local hub where she provided legal assistance to community members.

Taraneh spent her last semester of law school at the University of Barcelona in Spain, where she studied international environmental law and European Union law. Upon graduation, Taraneh received the David M. Jones Memorial Award, awarded to a student whose character had been a source of inspiration and optimism to her classmates and the Schulich Law community.

Prior to joining Dennis James Aitken, Taraneh articled at a national firm with a leading litigation practice. Taraneh also spent a summer working at the Canadian Environmental Law Association in Toronto, where she reviewed environmental monitoring and reporting obligations under the Canada, US, Mexico Agreement. Taraneh was called to the British Columbia bar in 2023.

In her spare time, Taraneh loves to ski, play and watch tennis, and hike the west coast with her dog Mochi.
